Laureen A. Burke, MD

Joan W. Chisholm, MD

Welcome to my new practice.   I have been a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York since 1998.  I performed  my residency  in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was the Chief Resident of my residency program at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital.  After graduating from my residency I accepted a faculty position within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Strong Memorial Hospital and became Board Certified as a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  I subsequently practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology as a Partner in a private practice for 7 years, until April, 2012 when I opened my new practice focusing exclusively on gynecologic care.

There were many variables that lead to my decision to leave the large group practice model and start my own practice.   Over the past five years I had developed a greater appreciation for the gynecologic challenges women face as they age.  Issues surrounding contraceptive management, peri-menopause and menopausal symptom management, as well as issues related to pelvic floor relaxation and urinary incontinence are problems many women struggle with daily. Over the past five to six years  I decided to dedicate myself to training in, and better understanding these clinical issues.    Interestingly, as I have done this I also noticed that the demographic of my patient population began to change as well,  reflecting  my clinical focus and interest.

I have had the opportunity to train with an outstanding Urologist in our community  and have been evaluating  and medically or surgically managing patients with urinary incontinence, and pelvic floor prolapse for over five years.  I have been trained and credentialed through the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine to perform and read gynecologic ultrasounds and will continue to provide that care in my practice.  Most recently I have had the privledge to have been trained by Dr. Brent DuBeshter, Department Chair, Gynecologic Oncology,  Strong Memorial Hospital on the DaVinci Robot.  Dr. DuBeshter is recognized as a leader in Robotic gynecologic surgery in our region.  Mastering this technology enables me to offer my patients the most minimally invasive surgical options available if and when benign gynecologic surgery is necessary.
